Alba-Iulia
Situated in the center part of Romania, on the terraces of the Mures River, Alba-Iulia is a very old city. Known from the Dacian times under the name of Apullum, and later Balgrad – Cetatea Albă – the city was the center of the Romania estate. Here, in 1599, Michael the Brave achieves the first step in a political unity of the three Romanian provinces: Moldavia, Transylvania and Wallachia. In December 1918, he achieved the unification of Transylvania with Romania.
As a tourist, you can admire the Mediaeval Fortress of Alba Carolina, built in the Vauban style, The Roman Catholic Church (13th century), The Reunification Church, The Pricier Palace, The Obelisk, The Unification Museum, and The City Gate. |
