Timişoara
In the Western part of Romania, there is Timişoara, the Martyr City where the Revolution from 1989 broke out. A real symbol of the region of Banat, Timişoara was one of the first towns where the gas was used for the illumination and in which the first horses trams could be used.
It is frequently called “ the City of the Flowers” or “Little Vienna”. As a tourist, you are impressed by the a nice walking on Corso, but also by the ruins of the old citadel, built in the Vauban style, in the 18th century, by the Orthodox Cathedral and by the Roman-Catholic Dom. A very important university center, Timişoara has a beautiful tradition concerning the Romanian medicine school. Other fundamental and symbolic element for this city is the classical music, which is “at home” here. Such a spiritual place made local Opera well known all over the world. |
