The Danube DeltaThe Danube was mentioned in Herodotus’ Histories (484-425 BC) and Napoleon named it “the king of the European rivers”. Considered the second longest river in Europe after Rhine, the Danube flows 2858 km from German’s Black Forest Mountain to The Black Sea and covers its last 1075 km on Romanian territory, entering our country at Portile de Fier and ending its journey in the Danube Delta. The Danube Delta is the youngest dry land in Europe, growing 40 km a year. The Biospheric reservation covers a surface of 5800-km squares, and it includes the proper Delta, the lagoon complex Razim – Sinoe and the Danube’s surface is on Romanian land. The Delta was formed between the Danube’s three river mouths to the Black Sea: Chilia, Sulina and Saint George. They are alluvial deposits along the river waters, or pieces of land (Letea, Caraorman etc.). The Danube Delta hosts a variety of life forms – 300 bird species, 160 fish species, over 1150 species of plants and many species of mammals. With the help of UNESCO, and the famous underwater explorer Jacques Cousteau, in 1990, the entire Delta was declared a Biospheric Reservation by a Government decision. We cannot tell you anything more about Romania, because would probably say that, as we are Romanians, we cannot see things clearly. Maybe you found all these superlatives too exaggerated, but we assure you we could never say enough about Romania. And we won’t… We invite you to visit it with Amicitia Travel. If you love mystery, natural beauties and simplicity and purity of the human heart, then you will enjoy Romania. We can make you see our country as it is, and as we see it… It needs you to admire it, and you need us to show it to you!
