Iasi
The “old lady” of the wonderful region, the city of Iasi is sometimes called “Little Rome”, due to its location on the seven hills. Even though Iasi it was known in the past as “the City of the 100 Churches”, Iasi is still a place admired by the Orthodox tourists of all over the world, who come here to pray, to relax and to find their own lost innocence. The church of the monastery “Trei Ierarhi”, dating from the 17th century, represents a true architectural jewel, being unique in Romania through the “lanced” aspect of the external walls. The Church of the Mitropoly is known as the biggest Orthodox church in Romania, dating from the 19th century. In this sacred place, are hosted the Saint Parascheva’s relics, which gather every year, on the 14 of October, many believers, who come here to pray. Of particular importance is the Culture Palace, an imposing building, erected in “Flamboyant” neo-gothic style, between 1906 and 1925, on some plans projected by the architect I.D.Berindei. For three decades, it represented the administrative headquarters of the city. In 1925, it became the Culture Palace, and today it houses for important museums: art, history, ethnographic and polytechnic.
A very interesting detail is the fact that, in 1882, Gustave Eiffel himself passed through, his plans being used at the construction of Hotel Traian.
