Muntenia and Oltenia
One of the most important rivers in Romania, the river Olt, separates Oltenia from Muntenia. The relief of this area includes the Carpathians and the Southern part of the Danube.
Curtea de Arges, a small and old town, was the Capital of Wallachia during the 14th century. Here, the tourists can admire Byzantine structured Saint Nicolae Church, built in 1352, but also the famous monastery from Curtea de Arges, founded by Neagoe Basarab, between 1512 and 1521. Inside Curtea de Arges church are our flagstones from the first and the second royal families of Romania. In Targu Jiu, we can admire three masterpieces belonging to the great sculptor Constantin Brancusi: The Column of the Infinite, The Table of Silence and The Gate of the Kiss.
In this region, there are also a few famous monasteries like Polovraci, Cozia, Bistrita or Tismana. |
