Located in a picturesque landscape, the monasteries of Moldavia and Bucovina are some “strong points” of the touristic offer in Romania. You need not make large distances between them; in such a corner of the world, torn by the wars, where the Moldavian hospodars wanted to prove their faith in God, but also their thanking to Him; this is why, for each victory over the enemy, they built a church or a monastery. So, we meet a pure world, full of God and color…
DAY 1 – arrival on Henry Coandă Airport; transfer to a hotel in Bucharest, after which we have the sightseeing. Among other things, you can see The Revolution Square- with its former Royal Palace, which is today The Art Museum of Romania- the Romanian “Athenaeum”, the Triumph Arch, the Patriarchal Cathedral, The Palace of the Parliament. Dinner and accommodation in Bucharest.
DAY 2 – going towards Sinaia, one day called The Pearl of the Prahova Valley. It is visited the Peleş Castle, the former royal residence of the first Romanian king, Carol I of Hohenzollern. The castle was built in the German Renaissance style, between 1875 and 1883. After this, we will visit The Monastery of Sinaia, whose name reminds us of the Sacred Mountain of Sinai. The old church is a UNESCO monument. In the afternoon, you have a few free hours to walk in the open air or you can climb by the funicular to 2000m altitude. Dinner and accommodation, at the Hotel of Sinaia.
DAY 3 – a trip to Braşov and Bran. It is visited the old center of Braşov, The Black Church and The Counsel Square. After 2-3 free hours, we will go to Poiana Braşov, towards Bran, where we are going to visit the castle with the same name, built in 1377 and better known as Dracula’s Castle. After this, back to Sinaia, for dinner and accommodation.
DAY 4 – we go to Piatra Neamţ for two days. The itinerary goes through a wonderful landscape, from Lacul Roşu to The Gorges of Bicaz. We will also visit the Monastery of Bistriţa. Dinner and accommodation in Piatra Neamţ.
DAY 5 – we visit the monasteries from Neamţ, Agapia and Sihăstria, but also the Museum of the great folk artist Nicolae Popa. Agapia is the one that lets us a very special impression, because of its spectacular inner paintings, made by the greatest Romanian painter, Nicolae Grigorescu. After this, we will return to Piatra Neamţ, for dinner and accommodation.
DAY 6 – departure towards Iaşi. The city of Iaşi, “the old lady of the Romanian culture”, is the town built upon seven hills and once known as “the city of the one hundred churches”. Here, we can see the Church of the Three Hierarchies (from the 17th century), a true jewel of the medieval architecture, The Metropolitan Cathedral, The House of Dosoftei and The Culture Palace that hosts four museums. In the evening, if it is possible, an Opera spectacle, in the building of the National Theatre ,dating from the 19th century and also a UNESCO monument. After, dinner and accommodation at the hotel.
DAY 7 – departure towards Câmpulung Moldovenesc – Humor and Voroneţ monasteries, the latter being one of the foundations of Stephan The Great. Moldavia’s hero get into history through his 47years reign and through the multitude of churches he founded, after each victory he achieved, especially over the Ottomans. “The Sixtin Chapel of the Orient”, the monastery impresses mostly through the blue of its frescos and particularly through the one called “The Last Judgement”, located on the Western wall. In Câmpulung Moldovenesc, we will visit the Wooden Museum, then you have your dinner and accommodation in the same city. During dinner, you have the opportunity of knowing the Romanian folklore, through a nice spectacle, presented by a folk ensemble from the region.
DAY 8 – departure towards the monasteries Suceviţa and Moldoviţa, following an itinerary of an amazing beauty. Moldoviţa is the special place where “The Golden Apple” is kept- the special price obtained by all the outside painted monasteries of Bucovina from The international Federation of the Tourist Journalists; we will make a short rest to the Black Ceramics Studio of Marginea, and then we return to Câmpulung Moldovenesc, for dinner and accommodation at the same hotel.
DAY 9 – after the visit to the Wooden Museum from Câmpulung Moldovenesc, we will head towards Suceava. At a short distance from Suceava, is a monastery called Dragomirna, using a spectacular combination of Gothic and Byzantine architecture, keeping also its Romanian influences. In Suceava, the former capital of Moldavia, the old wall of Stephan The Grate’s citadel bring us back in time, in the 15th century. After this true history lesson, you have dinner and accommodation in Suceava.
DAY 10 – transfer to Bucharest, following the itinerary Bacău- Focşani- Buzău. Dinner with a Romanian specific in a restaurant from the capital of Romania.
DAY 11 – after visiting the Palace of the Parliament, you will be transferred to the airport, ready to go back. |
